Renowned musicians to perform at the 12th Auer Festival in Veszprem in early Aug

Renowned musicians will perform at the 12th Auer Festival held in Veszprem, in western Hungary, between Aug 3 and 9. The event, held in honour of the legendary violinist and pedagogue Lipot Auer, will feature concerts by Hungarian and international artists, as well as music history lectures and local history walks, organisers said.

Among the festival’s guests will be French pianist David Fray, who will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra. Ukrainian violinist Valeriy Sokolov will also give a concert, while Sergey Malov will present works by Bach and Schubert on the viola da spalla. The internationally successful Motus Quartet and Korossy Quartet will perform, alongside Borbala Dobozy, a distinguished harpsichordist specialising in historical keyboard instruments, and accordionist Sergey Sadovoy.

Highlights of the programme include an evening of contemporary Hungarian works by the Ensemble Cello Incanto, a genre-spanning concert by the Duka Elemer and Gipsy Chamber Orchestra, and a joint performance by two Hungarian youth string orchestras: the Gardonyi Zoltan Youth Chamber Orchestra from Veszprem and the Solti Gyorgy Music School String Orchestra from Budapest.

Families can enjoy an interactive children’s concert by Izabella Simon.

Local history walks will also be on offer, and, as a new feature, the Foton Audiovisual Centre in Veszprem will screen films related to the world of music and musical art.

The concerts will take place at various venues in Veszprem and Balatonfured.
