{"id":1782,"date":"2026-07-22T15:40:32","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T15:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/?p=1782"},"modified":"2026-07-23T18:44:03","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T18:44:03","slug":"europeans-climate-change-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/europeans-climate-change-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"How worried are Europeans about climate change?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>How worried are Europeans about climate change?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/climate.ec.europa.eu\/citizens-stakeholders\/citizen-support-climate-action_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has published<\/a> its 2025 Eurobarometer survey exploring how seriously Europeans take climate change. According to it, 85 per cent of citizens identify climate change as a major problem. 81 per cent back the goal of climate neutrality by 2050, and a growing share (38 per cent) also report feeling personally exposed to environmental and climate-related risks. Europeans see climate action not only as necessary but beneficial both economically and socially. Over three quarters (77 per cent) agree that the cost of damage caused by climate change outweighs the cost of transitioning to a climate-neutral economy, while 88 per cent support greater investment in renewables and energy efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"710\" height=\"783\" src=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1785\" srcset=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic.jpg 710w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-272x300.jpg 272w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-500x551.jpg 500w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-465x513.jpg 465w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-453x500.jpg 453w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 710px) 100vw, 710px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>More than half (59 per cent) of Europeans say they have taken an action in the past six months that combats climate change, most notably by reducing and recycling waste (64 per cent) and cutting down on consumption of disposable items whenever possible (49 per cent).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Just over a third (34 per cent) of Europeans take account of lower energy consumption when buying a new household appliance, while just over a quarter regularly use environmentally friendly alternatives to a private car.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>84 per cent support the aim of boosting Europe\u2019s competitiveness in clean technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>75 per cent believe reducing fossil fuel imports will enhance energy security and benefit the EU economically.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 8 Member States, more than half of citizens feel personally exposed to climate-related risks, particularly in Southern Europe, Poland, and Hungary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Citizens see national governments (66 per cent), the EU (59 per cent), and business and industry (58 per cent) as best placed to tackle climate change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 28 per cent believe individuals are best placed to effectively address the issue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>85 per cent believe climate action should be a priority to improve public health, and 83 per cent say better preparation for climate impacts will improve daily life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While 84 per cent agree that climate change is caused by human activity, 52 per cent say traditional media fail to provide clear information, and 49 per cent report difficulty identifying reliable content on social media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Two-thirds of Europeans said that they consider extreme weather conditions when deciding on a holiday destination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignfull size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"712\" height=\"733\" src=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1786\" srcset=\"https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2.jpg 712w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2-291x300.jpg 291w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2-500x515.jpg 500w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2-465x479.jpg 465w, https:\/\/centauriweb.hu\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Europeans-Eurobarometer-2025-climate-change-infographic-2-486x500.jpg 486w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 712px) 100vw, 712px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thank you for sharing this article!
