AUTOR

Centauri Literatura Ice PickCentauri, the pen named European writer was born in 1972, first published in 2006, since then has been appearing in significant belletristic periodicals.  He publishes extracts from novels, essays and also photos, mainly in periodicals, and on covers of books as well. In 2007 his first short story (Flaubert and fashion) appeared in the anthology Körkép (Panorama) which represents the best writers of short stories of the year. In the same year he published his first volume of short stories, named Pathos in Chaos. His next volume, Blue Angel (2008) was published for the 15th National Book Festival by Magvető, one of the most significant publisher of the country. Following this he started to be called “the discovery of the year”.
Pathos is regarded a radical, sometimes essay-like book, while Blue Angel is thought to be a dynamic, well-structured book with an arch and a lot of vigour. Both sing an individual tune and bring a new colour into literature. Besides “his genuineness, dynamism, and electricity” his inexhaustible love of story-telling is often highlighted, by which “he is able to create a striking short story from the most absurd stories”. Representatives of most different social stratums and ages show up in unexpectable, astonishing situations, nevertheless the stories and their characters seem to be the heroes of an only great novel. Some of them appear in both volumes and several short stories, though not only the recurring characters but also the net of the way of story-telling, elements of his style, references and overtone connects the stories. Meanwhile it keeps the diversity of “impressive short stories”. This embarrassing diversity is interpreted as a kind of post modern playing, a kind of juggling with literary references-effects by some, though some others, at other times think it to be absolutely the author’s universe or a kind of richness of Clavis Universalis. Recurring opinion is that standing behind the pen name there is an experienced (and not beginner) author who is also skilled in the area of   natural sciences, is a steady handed writer who not only possesses remarkable imaginative and linguistic power but also owns a kind of black comedy.
The first critiques tended to classify his world of writing into magic realism. Review writers referred to several writers including Marquez, Borges, Malamud, Golding, Rushdie, Byron, Grass, Kafka, Szentkuthy, Dragoman, Bodor Ádám, Jack London, Strindberg, Melville, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Roland Barthes, Julian Barnes, Salinger, Umberto Eco, David Mitchell and Thomas Mann while searching for linguistic effects/references and defining Centauri’s latitude.
His short stories have been labelled to be provocative, radical, merciless, enjoyable, humorous, beautifully rich, impressive, masculine, cynical, grave, hypnotic, virtuosic, absurd, grotesque, of high stature, satiric, nice, gently emotional, drastic, apocryphal, oceanic, Baroque, essential, ironic, sensual, magnetic, experimental, stormy, dynamic, tragicomic, sarcastic, playful, striking, wallowing, enigmatic, numbing, frosty, apocalyptic, cosmic, and mysterious.
Centauri, “the discovery of the year”, “the bursting multi-talent” is keeping his incognito after his second volume, mainly with reference to freedom of writing. He does not publish any portraits of himself and does not appear in great public. Both his books have been surrounded by very positive and vivid critiques and he has been accepted by both literal life and the reading public surprisingly quickly in spite of his mysteriousness.
